Abstract

The results of the electrochemical reduction zirconia in molten mixtures based on calcium chloride, magnesium and alkaline metals in liquid gallium cathode. It has been shown that the use of a liquid phase cathode provides more favorable conditions for the restoration (without prior agglomeration), which allows the production of finely dispersed zirconium of high purity. The degree of extraction depends on the composition of the electrolyte mixture and naturally decreases when replacing cations in the melts both on the basis of calcium chloride and magnesium chloride in the sequence Na+> K+> Li+. The best performance is provided on the basis of compounds of calcium and sodium chloride.
